OUR BELIEFS |
|
|
We are black and white, rich and poor, young and old,
male and female, and all dealing with a divisive world. However, we
have proudly been made one in Jesus Christ. In a world of beliefs
that change by the minute, we believe in God who does not change,
and his specific revelation recorded in the Bible. Allow us to list
some of our core beliefs. The Trinity:
There is one eternal being who is God, who exists eternally in three
persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
- We believe in God the Father the Almighty,
Creator of all things visible and invisible.
- We believe in Jesus Christ, God’s one
and only Son, the one and only Savior.
- Who was born Jesus of Nazareth, fully human and fully divine,
conceived of the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary.
- Who suffered and was crucified under Pontius Pilate.
- Who died and was buried, and who rose again bodily from
the dead on the third day.
- Who ascended into Heaven and now sits at the right hand
of the Father.
- Who will return to earth to judge both the living and the
dead.
- We believe in the Holy Spirit.
- Who is an active and operative part of the triune God.
- Who indwells every Christian.
Authority of Scripture
We believe that all Scripture is divinely inspired and without error
(Mark 12:36; John 14:26; 2 Tim. 3:14-17; 2 Pet. 1:20-21). Christianity
did not occur in a vacuum. While we value the testimony of church
history, the Bible serves as the final authority in all matters of
belief and behavior. Therefore, we value Bible-centered preaching
and teaching as the foundation for actions.
Mankind needs Saving
We believe the Bible teaches that mankind was created good by God,
but willfully sinned and is consequently lost and without hope of
Heaven apart from Jesus Christ (Acts 4:12; Rm. 3:23; John 14:6).
Salvation is only through Jesus Christ
- We believe that salvation from Hell and the forgiveness of
sins is only by grace through faith in the blood of Jesus Christ
(Rm. 5:9; Eph. 2:8-9; 1 John 1:7; 1 Tim. 2:5; 2 Tim. 1:10).
- We believe that a sinner is justified by faith, apart from any
law system (Rm. 3:19-21, 28-30; 4:1-8, 21-25).
- We believe that a sinner is regenerated through God’s
grace by putting faith in Christ, repenting of sin, confessing
Christ, and being immersed into Christ (Rm. 5:1-2; Rm. 10:9; 1
John 4:15; Tit. 3:5; Acts 2:38; Rm. 6:1-7; Col. 2:12).
- We believe that all Christians should mature spiritually, grow
in their personal relationship with Christ, and become more like
Christ in their beliefs and conduct (Col. 1:28; Heb. 6:1-3; 1
Pet. 2:1-3).
The Church
We believe in the Church of Jesus Christ, founded on the Day of Pentecost,
protected from being overpowered, and consisting of all Christians
everywhere (Matt. 16:13-18; Acts 2:41-47; Eph. 1:22-23).
Family
We believe that the family is God’s foundational institution
for human society (Matt. 19:5-6; Eph. 5:22-6:4). Historically, powerful
civilizations fell as the family declined. Therefore, we encourage
lifelong commitments to marriage between one man and one woman. We
support the ongoing spiritual nurture of the family, and we are committed
to honoring the priority of family time through our ministries and
activities. Jesus Christ calls everyone who has experienced broken
homes to peace and renewal in him, while offering strength to rebuild
the family.
Stewardship
We believe that Biblical stewardship involves the proper
management of all that God has given us [Time, Talent, Treasure] to
expand His Kingdom (Ps. 24:1-2; 1 Cor. 4:2; 1 Peter 4:10; 2 Cor. 8:8-9).
We encourage every member to adopt a lifestyle of stewardship that
recognizes God’s ownership of everything. Christians are charged
by God to practice the New Testament principle of giving abundantly,
in contrast to the minimal Old Testament tithe (10%), to support the
work and life of the church. |
